MARCH 2020 – Awesome Women in Business Mix, Mingle & Motivate:
Turning Small Talk Into Something Powerful

Join us for an afternoon celebration of Women in Business as Megan Finnerty leads an interactive Discussion on Turning Small Talk Into Something Powerful. How you can use the time you spend eating canapes to inspire curiosity. How you can use the wait in the wine line to create connection.

The idea is – this is a chance to connect to the WHY of your WHAT. When you can articulate why you are passionate about what you do, you can start inspiring others to join you because they will be able to see themselves reflected in your values, your ideas and your enthusiasm.

Being able to explain to others in a brief, thoughtful and charismatic way WHY you care about what you love doing is a powerful foundation for collaboration and partnership in the future. It helps people understand who you are, where you come from and what motivates you. It can also illuminate what you’re trying to accomplish or create, and how they can help.

Why you should join: You’ll leave with tactical, practical tips on how to prepare yourself to connect with an audience about what you do, why it matters and how it can make a difference in the world.

What you can expect: You will learn how the best practices of oral storytelling and journalism can support your workplace communication. We’ll cover some theory, but most of it focuses on real world application. You will use worksheets and some of you will be able to volunteer to share ideas and observations.

What you don’t have to worry about: You won’t have to talk about anything you don’t want to. You don’t have to admit anything awkward. You aren’t obligated to share. AND – the worksheet is YOURS. You don’t turn it in or have to show it to anyone. This training is just for you!

What to have ready – Please come with three things in mind:

A group of people or a person you will be speaking to, persuading or teaching in the next two months. Have these people or this person in mind.

You will be given a worksheet, and the exercises are easiest to do if you have a real-life situation in mind. This doesn’t mean you’ll have to talk about it – or that you need all of it figured out – you just want to come with something you want to work on.
